Frequently asked questions
How do I connect with someone?
Everyone has a personal code, in the form OKAY-XXXX-XXXX. In the Contacts tab tap “Add a contact” and enter the other person’s code, or send yours from the Invite tab, even to someone who doesn’t have the app yet. The link goes both ways: you both see each other, up to 20 contacts each, and either of you can remove it.
I’m not getting notifications
Check in your phone’s settings, under Apps › I’m Okay › Notifications, that they’re allowed. Some phones stop apps to save battery: exclude I’m Okay from battery optimisation. The app’s settings include a step-by-step guide for Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo and others. Then send a test notification to yourself or to a contact, to see whether it really arrives. I’m Okay can’t work when the phone is off, flat or offline.
How do check-in times and automatic alerts work?
They’re optional. In settings you choose up to three times a day, the days and a grace period: a reminder arrives before the time, and if you don’t tap “I’m okay” by the time plus the grace period, your loved ones get an alert with your last location. Location is only used around your check-in times and with SOS, never with an ordinary “I’m okay”: the details are in the privacy policy.
I’ve changed phone: how do I get my account back?
If you had linked Apple, Google or your email, open the app on the new phone, tap “I already have an account” and sign in the same way: you get back your code, contacts, times and plan. If you hadn’t linked it, ask one of your contacts to create a “relink” code for you from your card: it’s valid for 15 minutes.
How do I delete my account?
From Settings › “Delete account”. Your name, code, contacts, times and alerts are permanently deleted. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel your subscription: cancel it first from your Google Play subscriptions, as explained below.
Managing or cancelling your subscription
Subscriptions go through Google Play and are managed by Google. To change plan or cancel, open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions, or go to play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
If you cancel, the subscription stays active until the end of the period you’ve already paid for, and then doesn’t renew.
Refunds are decided by Google, under the rules you’ll find at support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637: we don’t see payments.
